EndNote and Citation Managers

CWYW Features

CWYW stands for Cite While You Write. It works with Microsoft Word and Apple Pages.  Please check the compatability. This feature enables you to customize your manuscript to the desired style or format required by the publisher or a journal. You can easily change to another style if needed.  You can update your in-text citations and references in one click.

Instructions

Basically there are two ways to insert a reference onto your manuscript: from Word and from your EndNote Library. Make sure all the references you would want to use for your paper or manuscript are already added to the EndNote Library.

Start from a Word document

  • Open a Word document and Go to EndNote tab
  • Select a citation style from the Style menu.  To add another citation style to your list, go to Select Another Style.
  • To insert the citation(s) into your manuscript, make sure the cursor is at the appropriate place in the Word document.
  • Click on Insert Citation from Find Citation tab.
  • Select the desired citation(s) and click Insert button.
  • The selected citation(s) will appear in the text, and the reference(s) will be placed at the end of the document in the format you chose.

Start from the EndNote Library

  • Open a Word document
  • Select a citation style from the Style menu.
  • Make sure the cursor is at the appropriate place in the Word document.
  • Open the EndNote Library and find the citation or citations you would want for the manuscript
  • Click on Insert Citation tab within the EndNote Library.
  • The citation(s) will appear in the text, and the reference(s) will be placed at the end of the document in the format you chose.

Convert to plain text at final stage to remove EndNote markings: Convert Citations and Bibliography…Convert to Plain Text.
Keep original document in case you need to make changes.
