CINAHL, the Cumulative Index to the Nursing and Allied Health Literature, is the pre-eminent database for searching the nursing and allied health literature. This class is intended as a step beyond the basic CINAHL searching class, providing more information on CINAHL Complete.

Business Searching for Health Professionals (Michael)
Health professionals, especially those in leadership positions, occasionally have needed to search the literature of business and administration. Information on business and administrative topics can be found not only in business-specific databases, but also in more medically-oriented databases such as CINAHL and PubMed. This class is designed to provide some basic search tips for health professionals on researching business topics, as well as tips on using free services, such as Google Alerts to keep up with topics of interest.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine: The Basics (Kelsey)
Complementary, alternative, and integrative health are popular health care approaches among Americans. Although used interchangeably, these terms all have different meanings. This class will look at the different meanings as well as identify reliable resources to use when searching for more information on complementary, alternative, or integrative health.
Objectives:
1.Define complementary, alternative, and integrative health.
2.Identify the best resources to use when searching for information on CAM.
3.Be able to locate those resources and search for CAM topics.
Consumer Health Information on the Internet
Being able to locate reliable health information can help you make better health decisions. But, how do you find useful, easy to understand health information? If you use the internet, how do your know if the information you find is true and up to date? This class will you show you how to find and evaluate the best internet resources.

Creating Presentation Posters using PowerPoint
Learn how to find free poster templates for PowerPoint so you can easily create a poster of any size for presenting data and ideas. This class will cover finding templates, editing the content for optimum display and taking your existing data and copying it into the poster. Creating a poster "from scratch" will also be discussed.

Health Literacy Forum:
Health Literacy is defined as "the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information services needed to make appropriate health decisions" (Glassman, 2013). In simpler terms, it involves knowing how to find information, evaluate and use it in regards to health in everyday life. In October of 2015, the University of Tennessee Medical Center hosted a Forum on this topic. Video of the speakers make up these modules.
Cynthia Bauer, Keynote Speaker: (47 minutes)
"The Importance of Health Literacy and its Consequences for Patient Health."
Cynthia Bauer, PhD, is the Senior Advisor for Health Literacy and the senior official for the Plain Writing Act, Office of the Associate Director for Communication, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). She chairs the CDC Health Literacy Council and manages the agency's health literacy web site and blog. Also she was one of the developers of CDC's Clear Communication Index and CDC's online health literacy training courses for health professionals. She is a frequent speaker and teacher at professional conferences, webinars, in-person training sessions, and university courses.

PubMed is the gold standard search engine for the MEDLINE database, and it is free to access anywhere in the world. This class will review the basics of PubMed/MEDLINE structure as well as review how to understand and filter your search results.

Learning Express Library (Martha)
Learning Express Library is a clearinghouse of test preparation and tutorial materials, covering everything from the most basic computer skills to Microsoft Office tutorials on Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and more. In addition, the database includes a variety of college and career test preparation resources, Spanish language materials, and other adult learning resources, including GRE, GMAT, and NCLEX. These tools save time and money for health professionals. This class will cover the basics of using the Learning Express Library to prepare for College Placement Exams; Graduate School Admission Exams; Allied Health, EMT, or Nursing occupational exams; and Computer Basics.

Citation managers are very powerful tools for busy researchers and clinicians, allowing them to build a repository of research citations that can be formatted according to the citation requirements of a variety of journals for publication or other purposes. These tools save time for health professionals, by helping to keep research organized and formatted. This class will cover getting set up with EndNote, and using it to organize research.
