Area Physicians
The library provides a wide variety of services to practicing area physicians and health care professionals.
Circulating Materials
Circulating materials may be borrowed for a 14-day period. Non-circulating materials may be available as needed for special situations (slides, presentations, etc.). Additional information is found in the Circulation Policy.
Copying (Fees Applicable)
Three self service photocopiers are located in the library. Cost for copies is five cents per page.
Document Delivery (Fees Applicable)
Various methods of document delivery can be supported through the library, depending on the users' needs. Searches and documents are regularly faxed or sent by e-mail.
Article Requests (Fees Applicable)
Area Physicians and other area healthcare professionals may request items that are not in the library's collection by completing the library's Article Request Form. Articles requested are scanned and sent via the Internet. Questions regarding fees for this service should be directed to 865-305-9525 (but are generally $11 per article).
Librarian-Mediated Database Searches
The professional library staff is trained in searching the National Library of Medicine's MEDLARS databases, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at NLM's PubMed and UTK databases . You can call the library to request a search or use the online literature search request form . There is no charge for this service.
Information Search and Ready Reference
The staff will help find answers to specific questions that cannot be answered by database searches. Ready reference questions answered for everyone. Reference questions may be posed using our convenient Ask a Librarian service or the online literature search request form .
Loansome Doc Information
LOANSOME DOC is an electronic link between the health care professional and the librarian. You can request articles from Preston Medical Library, a designated LOANSOME DOC library, via your search of PubMed.
Training Classes
Training classes are now being offered on a variety of topics including PubMed, Electronic Databases, and Internet Basics. Please check with the library staff for a current schedule of classes.
