Preston Medical Library Liaison Program: Services Provided to Liaison Departments

Level One

Services Provided to all Departments

·         Send informational emails about the library (classes, special events, etc.).

·         Analyze book and journals collection for relevancy and use (determine the most valued).

·         Communicate department book and journal purchase requests to Library Director.

·         Develop subject knowledge in assigned liaison areas.

·         Learn the information needs and research interests of assigned departments.

·         Conduct patient care and research literature searches as requested.

·         Provide email, telephone, and in-person subject-specific reference.

·         Develop Library web pages to aid department in finding subject specific and other material.

·         Keep relevant statistics and write liaison librarian annual report.

Level Two

Services Provided as Requested

·         Conduct basic one-on-one consultations to assist with research and publication.

·         Provide in-depth, subject-specific, library information classes for department.

·         Participate, with other Department faculty in program-targeted instruction and presentations.

·         Assist with setting up automated subject alerts for individuals in the department.

·         Conduct literature searches to support grants requests.

·         Assist with placing items on reserve.

Level Three

Services Provided as Requested Based on Availability & Staffing

·         Develop and deliver course-integrated instruction.

·         Act as library representative on academic department committees.

·         Attend academic department retreats.

·         Search citations to help prepare tenure and promotion packets.

·         Coauthor articles and/or grants with academic faculty.

·         Provide information on where to publish.

·         Proctor exams.
