Worth Reading: "You cannot search the literature using artificial intelligence, and this is why", Marilyn Oermann, Nursing Education Perspectives

This article is worth sharing.  While written from the perspective of nurses and nursing faculty, it brings up points that are critical for all scientific disciplines. 

  • Generative AI searches can't provide reproducible results.  When you run a search in PubMed, you can see all terms that were used, and the results that came from those searches.  
  • AI doesn't have all the information.  Results that are behind a paywall can't be searched and summarized by AI. 
  • It may not save you time.  Many AI chatbots will include creatively generated citations that simply aren't real. Thus, you would need to verify those citations.
